2025 - Keith Corey
Keith D. Corey has been named the 2025 inductee into the Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame, recognizing his outstanding achievements and dedication to the sport. Since beginning his registered trapshooting career at age ten in 2000, Keith has consistently demonstrated exceptional skill, earning numerous titles at major competitions, including the Grand American, Southern Zone, and Virginia State Shoot. He calls Christiansburg IWGC his home club and his induction honors his contributions and lasting impact on Virginia trapshooting.
Keith’s championship record includes notable wins such as the 2007 Grand American World Doubles Junior Champion and the 2019 & 2020 VA Doubles Champion. He has claimed multiple Virginia State Shoot titles, including the 2001 Handicap Sub-Junior Champion, the 2006 Doubles Junior Champion, and the 2015 Old Dominion Clay Target Open Champion. His consistency and high-scoring performances have made him a standout competitor for over two decades. Along with the notable victories, Keith has accomplished a 200 straight (100 pair) in doubles, the 1st 100 straight in doubles at Christiansburg IWGC, and a 290x300 across all three disciplines.
Beyond competition, Keith has balanced his passion for trapshooting with family, work, and business responsibilities. Despite taking a four-year break to complete his college degree, he returned to the sport with the same high level of performance. With a 16-yard average in the 90th percentile since 2002 and an impressive doubles average of 95.4 in 2008, Keith’s skill and dedication make him a deserving Hall of Fame inductee and an inspiration to future generations of shooters.
2024 - Robert E. Goodman
Robert “Bob” Goodman’s first registered trapshooting target was in 1987 concluding in 2021. He fired at approximately 180,000 targets across all three disciplines. It is worth noting that Bob broke over 97% of his almost 69,000 16 yard targets. Bob garnered trophies wherever he competed, as evidenced when he earned a place on the ATA All-American Sub-Veteran Second teams in 2013 and 2014 and the Veteran Second team in 2017. In Virginia’s state shoots he won numerous trophies. Most notably, he was the Veteran Singles Champion in 2015 and 2016 and placed 3rd overall in the 2009 Handicap Championship.
Bob had more to do with Virginia trapshooting than simply shooting at targets. He served as Virginia’s delegate to the national Amateur Trapshooting Association from 2006 through 2010. Bob tirelessly represented Virginia’s interest to the ATA for many years until retiring to North Carolina. Bob was a most successful businessman. It is most likely due to his business/financial acumen that he became the ATA’s Executive Committee’s choice as treasurer from 2015 to 2021. Sadly, Bob passed away in 2022.






2024 - George "Jeff" Hafkamyer
George (Jeff) Hafkemeyer is and has been a decades long prominent supporter of the Virginia Trap Shooting community. His Trap career commenced in his home state of Texas, continued through-out his Army career and he continues to be an enthusiastic supporter of the sport here in Virginia. Posted to Virginia he continued his participation by joining the Arlington-Fairfax Chapter of The Izaak Walton League and has been a member for over 26 years. He has amassed over 197,000 registered ATA targets around Virginia, other state championships, and the Grand American. Jeff has made the Virginia State Team 9 of the last 10 Years. Jeff’s involvement with the Virginia Trap Association as Delegate has promoted successful VTA shoots for many years. Time spent compiling shoot results, shoot-off participants, and trophy winners for the three yearly VTA competitions, often to the determent of his own scores, has made him a main cog in those successful events.
His extensive shooting resume also includes competing at the Grand American Trap Shoot twenty-one (21) times where he was the: 2014 Gipson Ricketts Handicap Veteran Champion, the 2017 Trapshooting USA Handicap Veteran Champion, the 2019 Krieghoff 100 Handicap Veteran Champion and the 2021 Gipson Ricketts Handicap Senior Veteran Champion.
Not only does he enjoy these individual achievements, but he is a “go to” for mentoring and working with experienced and novice shooters to improve all aspects of their trap shooting skills. He is a consummate teacher and very knowledgeable of the fundamentals, techniques, mental approach to shooting, both for practice and more importantly tournaments.
2024 - Raffael Marasca
Raffaele Marasca has been shooting for over 43 years. Through the years, he has amassed countless trophies, but some of the most notable are: 1994 & 1999 State Singles Champion, several VA State runner-up trophies, numerous VA State Class championships, 2003 California State Shoot President’s Handicap Open Champion, and 3 Grand American trophies.
Other notable shooting accomplishments include a 99.24% singles average in 2002, Multiple VA Men’s State First Team memberships, and breaking all 500 singles at the 2002 VA State Shoot. Raffaele also completed the ATA Grand Slam in 1997 and is the 196th person to do so.
2023 - Dean Spiridon Jr.
Dean is known throughout Virginia for his shooting ability and his work in furthering trapshooting for generations to come. He is a four-time ATA All-American and has been selected to state teams in Pennsylvania and Virginia numerous times. Some of Dean’s major wins include 4 Grand American trophies, 13 wins in the Eastern Zone, 32 wins at state shoots, and various other wins. He has shot over 112,000 targets and continues to add to that total every year.
Not only are Dean’s skill and personal shooting accomplishments fantastic, but he has also taken an active role in giving back to the sport that he loves. In 2014, he started a youth shooting team at his local club and then grew that into a state-wide youth trapshooting league the following year. Throughout his time of helping with the league, it has managed to grow tremendously. Dean also serves on the board of directors of the Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame, who’s mission is to further youth trapshooting in Virginia.






2022 - Grant Leister
Grant started shooting registered trap in 1993 and continues to do so. He has shot over seventy thousand targets in his trapshooting career and has won various trophies.
Supporting trapshooting in Virginia must be a passion of Grant’s as he served as the treasurer of the Virginia Trapshooting Association (VTA) for more than 20 years. Along with this service, Grant has always been a staple as a shoot off referee during the Virginia State Trap shoots. For a number of years, Grant and his wife, Vickie, assisted in giving out trophies to the winners at the VTA shoots. Both of them always had a smile on their faces and enjoyed hearing about the wins.
2021 - Ted Carwile
Ted Carwile has been shooting registered targets for more than 20 years, and through the end of the 2020 season, he has amassed 106,700 Singles, 94,250 Handicap, and 85,600 doubles targets. Ted is showing no signs of slowing down as he ended the 2020 season with the highest singles average of his career. Ted hit 97.50% of the 4000 singles targets at which he shot. Over the years, he has made it to the 27 Yard line in handicap, ran three 200 straights in singles, ran one 100 straight in doubles, and has had countless other 100 straights in singles. Ted has also been a member of the ATA All American Sr. Vet team 2018, 2019, and 2020.
Mr. Carwile has amassed well over 30 trophies over the past 20 years at the Virginia State Shoot. Some of the more notable include: 2018 & 2016 Sr. Vet Singles Champion, 2019, 2018, & 2016 Sr Vet HOA, and several Sr Vet High All Around trophies. Ted has also won numerous other trophies at the Grand American, various state shoots, and large tournaments. Though out the past 12 years, Ted has been on either the Veteran or Senior Veteran state team for 11 of those years.
Ted is always willing to pitch in and help at local shoots. He can be seen scoring or loading trap houses when needed.
2020 - Robert "Danny" Sirk
Danny began shooting register trap targets in 1997. Since that beginning, he has fired more than 100,000 registered targets across the three disciplines and has destroyed the majority of them. Danny’s consistency has been and continues to be remarkable as he has been on a member of the state team every year since 2005. He shows no signs of slowing down any time soon as he ended the 2019 shooting year with a 97.45 singles average, 90.36 handicap average, and a 91.25 doubles average.
Through the years, Danny has won numerous trophies at the state level both in Virginia and across several other states. Some of his most notable awards include: 2014 Virginia State Handicap Champion, 2018 Virginia State Doubles Champion (100x100), 2016 Virginia State Veteran Handicap Champion, 2007 Pennsylvania 6th place Open Handicap, and 2015 Maryland State Open Doubles Champion. To cap off all of these awards, in 2015 Danny earned his way onto the Amateur Trapshooting Association All American Veteran Team. In 2009, he reached the 27 yard line for the first time, and he has returned to the back fence 2 more times since.
On top of his tremendous shooting abilities, Danny currently belongs to three trapshooting clubs in Virginia: Fairfax Rod and Gun, Arlington-Fairfax Izaak Walton, and the Winchester Gun Club. He has served as the President of Fairfax Rod and Gun where he was responsible for bringing the Eastern Regional College Trap & Skeet shoot to Virginia. Along with this, Danny has helped run many Wounded Warrior shoots. For 8 years, Danny also served as a gun club representative to the VTA and has been a long-time supporter of the Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame in its mission to support youth trapshooting in Virginia.






2019 - Robert "Bob" Brino
Bob began registered trapshooting in 1993. He is currently the shotgun sports chairman of the Arlington-Fairfax Izaak Walton League (“AFIWLA”) club in Centreville, Virginia, as he has been for 25 years. This chapter is the largest in Virginia. He has served as the trapshooting shooting director for the Fairfax Gun Club in the past as well. As AFIWLA chair he is responsible for all shotgun activities at the club. They will have three registered shoots per year and a winter league that is always at capacity that includes trap and skeet. It should be noted that this league shoot has been running for 40 years.
Mr. Brino is heavily involved in the Crushin Clays tournament that is an annual event at AFIWLA. This charity shoot, sponsored by the Virginia Shooting Sports Association (“VSSA”) and the NRA is for the benefit of St. Judes Children’s Hospital. This has been going on for over 20 years and has raised almost $400,000 for the hospital.
Throughout his time as a VTA officer, he has served as vice president and two terms as president. During his terms as president he worked very closely with the management of Winchester Gun Club that is the home ground of the VTA. This cordial relationship goes a long way to ensure successful VTA shoots at Winchester. He was responsible for the beginning of physical improvements to the Winchester Club as supported by the VTA. A successful shoot is of the highest importance to a shooter.
Bob has also been the AFIWLA gun club representative to the VTA. The “reps” are actually the VTA’s board of directors.
2018 - Gary Funkhouser
Gary has served the Winchester Gun Club as a board member, president, and club manager for over 14 years.
His qualities of longevity, integrity, reliability, and outstanding leadership have made a significant impact on the Gun Club and the VTA. He is an exceptional role model for both new as well as long-time members of the gun club and VTA. He demonstrates a true devotion to promoting trapshooting sports at all levels.
Management involves more than facilities and equipment. It means people. Over the years as manager, Gary trained many young people to be responsible and respected human beings. These are life skills that will follow these WGC kids throughout their lives.
2017 - Andrea Smith
Andrea served as President of the Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame from 2005 through 2015 and continues to serve as Vice President. She continues to hold silent auctions to raise money to assist the different youth groups which are supported by the Hall of Fame
She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Virginia Shooting Sports Association to protect trap shooter's rights and protect the rights of all Virginia gun owners.
Her expertise in holding registered trap shoots at the Piedmont Sportsmen's Gun Club over the past several years throughout the winter months has enabled many shooters to acquire sufficient targets to avoid both yardage and classification penalties






2016 - Bruce Clevenger
Bruce's service to the Virginia Trapshooting Association (VTA) and the Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame (VTHOF) has been mostly through his many contributions to the Winchester Gun Club (WGC), serving as director, president, and currently serving as VTA Trustee. For more than 20 years, he has assisted and provided support to the VTA and WGC. He continues to work with the different groups to improve the facilities, equipment, and grounds.
His Tuesday Night Summer League, which averages a dozen full squads weekly, has been expanded to include several squads of junior shooters who work with the AIM program to promote and build the VTHOF commitment in the youth shooting program.
2015 - Blair Surber
Started shooting in 1986 and has amassed more than 124,000 Singles, 92,000 Handicap, and 83,000 Doubles targets. He gained national titles in all events.
Won major trophies at the North East Grand, Southern Grand, Grand American, South West Grand, Central American Handicap events. Consistent Zone Champion.
In 2009, won 6 Grand American trophies. Won the Southern Zone Singles, Handicap, and Doubles Championships multiple times and has gained his AA-27-AA classification.
2009 Captain of All-American Team. He was also on the 2011 Sr. Vet team where he served on the Winchester Gun Club Board of Directors as well as VTA Trustee.
2014 - Glen Funkhouser
Glen began shooting registered ATA targets in 1989. He shot his way to the 27 yard line by 1991 and has been on the Virginia State Team every year since. He has won all three State Titles at least twice. He works with youth as an instructor and coach of those young shooters. Glen was the coach and mentor of the ATA's 2012 Rookie of the Year. Glen has shown exceptional effort in working for and promoting the sport of Trapshooting.






2013 - Earl Pinkard
After setting records in skeet, Earl started shooting trap in 1967 and has been a devotee ever since. Among his many trophies are the Virginia Singles Champion in 2000, State Doubles in 2001, and State Veterans Doubles Championship in 2010. In addition, Earl has been on Virginia State Teams for eleven years.
Earl served as president of the Richmond Trap & Skeet Club for 10 years and has been Secretary of the Virginia Trapshooting Association for many years.
By default, Earl took on the role of the VTA's shoot photographer as well as awarding all trophies. For many years, VTA event winners had their pictures taken, framed, and write-ups prepared and ready to be published—all of this done by Earl hundreds and hundreds of times.
2012 - Dave Hewitt
Dave shot over 160,000 registered targets and won the Virginia State Handicap Championship among other noted trophies. He served several years as the Vice President of the Virginia Trapshooting Association, but his primary contribution to trapshooting in Virginia has been his great efforts promoting and working for our sport at the Christiansburg Gun Club.
2011 - Carol Smeitzer
Carol shot American trap from 1983–1988 and was on three ATA All American Teams. She won numerous Grand American trophies including the Preliminary Handicap Ladies Winner and was Runner-up in the Ladies Champion of Champions event. She shot 99 x 100 two times. She holds the ladies national handicap record of 64/75 and carried on in later years, winning numerous shoot-offs against All American shooters (males and females).
She won many Virginia State titles including Ladies Singles Champion three years in a row.
She was a member of the U.S. team from 1989–1994 and was Ladies Champion in 1989 with a record score. At the World Shoot, she won a bronze ladies team medal in Moscow, USSR.
Carol, a qualified shotgun coach, previously assisted many shooters in various learn-to-shoot programs.






2010 - Betty Farley
Betty is recognized as an operational and organizational force by Virginia trapshooters.
She has managed many aspects of countless shoots every year for more than a generation.
The ATA and VTA, as well as hundreds of trapshooters, are indebted to Betty Farley.
2009 - Don Jobe
Don has willingly worked many volunteer hours as a member of the Winchester Gun Club since 1969 and he has served on the Club's Board of Directors for many years. During his forty years of trapshooting, he shot over 100,000 of both sixteen yard targets and handicap targets, and 60,000 double targets.
Don helped start the "Road Kill Gang" at the 1983 State Shoot. This group fed shooters at the Virginia and Maryland State Shoots and also at the Memorial Shoot at Tuscarora for over twenty years. Don has been a 27-yard shooter for many years and has contributed much to our sport.
2008 - Bob Bayne
VTA president and an energetic promoter of trapshooting in Virginia.
A tireless worker who had a forward and aggressive vision for our sport, and could be credited with the idea that the Winchester Gun Club should become the VTA home grounds.
He was the epitome of the backbone of our sport, an average shooter who got involved simply because he loved trapshooting.






2008 - Dave Hakola
VTA trustee, director, long-standing member of the Winchester Gun Club and invaluable in matters of gun safety and liability issues.
Established the Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame, Inc. (VTHOF) in 1991, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. The VTHOF Inc. is a viable organization concentrating its efforts on educating and involving more youth in trapshooting.
